Payment methods and processing time

Use the tax roll number from the bill when adding the City of Kitchener as a bank payee. Online, mobile, phone, ATM and teller payments need at least five business days for processing. Paymentus accepts Visa or Mastercard online or at 1-866-419-2898, charges 1.75% and needs at least four business days.

At City Hall’s first-floor revenue desk, pay by cash, debit or cheque; credit cards are not accepted there. Appointments are optional. Cheque-only boxes are at the Young Street entrance and first-floor rotunda. Include the bill stub, date the cheque no later than the due date and make it payable to the City of Kitchener.

Automatic plans and account changes

The monthly pre-authorized plan withdraws on the first business day of each month. The first six payments use the prior year’s taxes and the last six reflect the actual year’s amount. The due-date plan instead withdraws the instalment amounts shown on interim, final and supplementary bills.

Submit bank changes or contact customer service to cancel at least 14 days before the next withdrawal. Mortgage-provider payment still requires the owner to arrange timely payment. Late charges are 1.25% monthly, added the day after the due date and the first business day of later months. Payments cover penalties and interest first, then the oldest taxes. Ask 519-741-2450 about the account.

Mailing and bill support

Mail cheques with the unaltered bill stub to City of Kitchener, Financial Services, Revenue division, PO Box 1113, Kitchener, ON N2G 4R6. Do not mail cash or fold, staple or stamp the stub.

The e-billing portal provides bill access and payment tools, but registering for electronic delivery does not itself enrol you in a bank-withdrawal plan. Keep the payment receipt and account details for any service enquiry.
